History

Jenny Miller started professional directing in 2004 when Benenden School, Kent employed her to direct  Dido and Aeneas for the students.  In the two following years she directed Britten’s

Noye’s Flude which involved two other schools and a hundred children/young people, and Kasa’s Brundibar.  Meanwhile she set up a tour for advanced singing students of Monteverdi’s L’Incoronzione di Poppea (2007-8) which toured in the South East and to London.  This tour has since become a regular event as a co-production with Longborough Festival Opera.  The latter company have since 2009 employed Jenny to produce young professionals in their summer Festival season, where she has directed Le Nozze Di Figaro,  Don Giovanni, and this year will direct Cosi Fan Tutte.  Gianluca Marciano has been the conductor for all three shows.

Other directing jobs have included creating a touring show Hell Hath No Fury which made a theatre piece out of solo cantatas (2008), and directing Menotti’s The Telephone for Lavender Hill Opera (2009).

She is currently creating a new company: Barefoot Opera, which she has co-founded with Polly Graham, and which will be launching a new version of Handel’s Alcina for the Arcola Theatre’s Grimeborn Opera season.
