Currently Viewing - Intensive Weekend Courses with The Complete Singer

View

Barefoot Opera Training Programme offers an exciting new structure for 2013.

For the past 12 years, The Complete Singer has developed a range of training courses for classical singers.

These courses, with an established team of acknowledged experts, have evolved a unique approach to voice work that incorporates response, movement and physical connectivity with classical voice training.

The newly formed company, Barefoot Opera, is the product of this decade of intensive work. www.barefootopera.com

From Jan 2013, The Complete Singer is merging with Barefoot Opera, and being taken forward under that name.

Barefoot Opera Modular Training Courses

Encouraged by the opportunity to work in integrated stages suggested by past Complete Singer Intensive Weekends, this year, instead of a residential week, we are offering modular training over three intensive weekends. The course is open to 12 singers per weekend and offers the usual high ratio of tutors to students with several opportunities for individual work.

Format of the weekend modules:

1st evening: group voice and movement integration workshop

2nd day: starting the day as above and then breaking into small masterclass- style groups with individual sessions, culminating in an informal concert and an optional drama workshop after supper.

3rd day: as above, then in small groups working on individual arias and creating theatre with the arias, as a group. We perform for each other and leave by 6:00 pm

The DATES for the three weekend modules are:

May 3-5: The Responsive Breath part 1:

“Classical singing is a series of stylised developments of natural reflexes and responses”

What are these responses, how can I observe them and utilise them? We look in detail at how to free specific areas of our bodies crucial to a fuller singing/interpreting experience.

August 5-7: The Responsive Breath part 2:

“How do I carry my responsive breath into detailed technique?”

How will it inform issues such as breath control, breath mobility (coloratura) range and most importantly, quality?

Oct 18-20: Text and Intention

“With my technique more fully integrated with my emotional responses- how do I bring text and my intentions as an actor to full life?” We explore authenticity in text work, how that influences breath decisions and how those decisions can be brought into our sung work with text.

FEE:

The course fee of £200 covers all tuition (solo time within master classes guaranteed twice a day) two performance opportunities, and light refreshments, lunches and dinners. Accommodation is not included, but if requested we can obtain very reasonably priced B & B accommodation with local families for the additional cost of £15 per night.

Though we feel the best benefit is through following the full three modules, we are able to structure each course so that a singer can elect to participate in just one or two. We continue to be based in picturesque St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex, in a beautiful Victorian house and garden, five minutes’ walk from the sea. The unique atmosphere created by this lovely environment encourages both stimulating work and convivial, relaxing evenings.
